This week, we were called to a home in Swindon to complete a specialist damp survey. The client had reported severe rising damp and timber decay affecting the ground floor bathroom. Access and visibility were severely limited due to the presence of wall/floor tiling and sanitary ware. Our specialist damp surveyor identified extensive wet rot affecting the internal timbers. With the use of an electrical conductivity meter, he recorded moisture content readings greater than 45%.

Due to the widespread decay it was suspected that the issue was far greater than the effects of rising damp, therefore he proceeded to investigate further, removing the bath panel to reveal that the main source of moisture was, in fact, a leaking pipe.

Specialist damp surveys should be carried out by a qualified damp proofing surveyor with a minimum of a CSRT (Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatments) qualification as required by the Property Care Association (PCA). All Biocraft South West surveyors have achieved the CSRT & CSSW qualification to carry out damp surveys.
